Robert Heaney MD Vitamin D 

Robert Heaney, MD has worked for over 50 years in the study of osteoporosis, vitamin D, and calcium physiology. He is the author of three books and has published over 400 original papers, chapters, monographs, and reviews in scientific and educational fields. Much of his work has focused on the Vitamin D and he spent 60 minutes to provide the absolute most critical tools, tips and information about Vitamin D and how it can benefit you.

Dr. Heaney’s call covered the gamut — from vitamin D needs, what to do if you’re deficient, the role of vitamin D in various populations, specific needs for overweight and obese clients, and MUCH more.


Leslie J. Bonci , MPH,RD,CSSD Supplement ‘Secrets’ of the Pros 

Leslie J. Bonci , MPH,RD,CSSD, is the director of sports medicine nutrition for the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and the Center for Sports Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). She serves as the sports dietitian for the University of Pittsburgh’s department of athletics, and is a nutrition consultant for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Milwaukee Brewers.

William Harris, PhD Omega-3 Fats 

William Harris, PhD is an internationally recognized expert on omega-3 fatty acids and how they can benefit patients with heart disease. He has been the recipient of five NIH grants for studies on the effects of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) on human health. He has over 120 publications relating to omega-3 fatty acids in medical literature and was co-author of the American Heart Association’s scientific statement, “Fish Consumption, Fish Oil, Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Cardiovascular Disease” published in 2002 in the journal Circulation.

In his audio, he shared the exact recommendations you need to know, the truth about omega-3′s and fat loss, his thoughts on fish oil vs. krill oil vs. flax oil and so much more. This is definitely one you don’t want to miss!

Stuart Phillips, PhD FACSM is one of the leading protein researchers in the world.  His team at McMaster University is one of the few that studies protein metabolism during exercise, so her shared some incredible insights during our monthly call:

Branched Chain and Essential Amino Acids 

Kevin Tipton, PhD earned a PhD in Nutrition from Auburn University and did his postdoctoral studies on the interaction of nutrition and exercise on muscle protein metabolism.  Kevin’s research focuses on exercise, nutrition and muscle metabolism in humans.

As someone who talks the talk and walks the walk, he also has coached and served as fitness and nutrition advisor for amateur soccer and rugby clubs. Whenever injuries allow, he still hopes to train for and play soccer and rugby and run road races.  His monthly call goes in depth on amino acids, protein needs of athletes, timing of intake when it comes to protein and much, much more.


Beta alanine 

Abbie Smith, PhD, CSCS earned her doctorate from the University of Oklahoma where she co-coordinates the Metabolic and Body Composition Laboratory.  She is a assistant professor at the University of North Carolina where she will continue her research that is focused on nutritional and training interventions to improve performance, general health and body composition. She has studied beta alanine in depth and shared exactly what you need to know about this popular dietary supplement in her monthly audio.

Bob Murray, PhD, FACSM is founder and principal of Sports Science Insights, LLC. Bob helped co-found the Gatorade Sports Science Institute (GSSI) in 1985 and served as its director through 2008. Dr. Murray oversaw a broad program of GSSI and university-based research in exercise science and sports nutrition designed to set industry standards and consumer expectations for science-based product efficacy. Bob has been an invited speaker at sports science and nutrition conferences around the world.

He is a wealth of knowledge and athlete, so combines the science and practical applications as good as anyone else.

He shares his expertise on electrolyte and hydration needs of athletes, pre, during and post workout nutrition, and much more.

Hector L. Lopez, MD, MS, FAAPMR is a board-certified specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation, Dr. Lopez is a consultant to professional athletes and the nutritional supplement industry as product developer, researcher, and writer. Dr. Lopez received his training at the world-renowned Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine—Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA, and holds a Masters degree in nutritional biochemistry with concentration in exercise science. Dr. Lopez is the founding partner and medical director of three facilities in New Jersey that focus on integrative rehabilitation medicine and human performance to treat patients with the full spectrum of orthopedic injuries.

He shared his expertise with DSU on dietary supplements for orthopedic injuries and those that play a role in modulating inflammation.
